Manchester University Written Task.

Manchester School of Architecture has a reputation for being one of the best in its field. Your exceptional resource facilities and innovative teaching methods would provide the perfect atmosphere to perform in.  A positive atmosphere is imperative to learning and creativity.  Being a BA course based more on an artistic and creative approach would bring out the best in my talents and abilities to create some amazing and unique designs. The combination of my quirky, individual style and approach to designing plus the universities facilities would enable me to produce my best work.

Manchester is a vibrant, multi cultural City that is in itself a wonderful source of inspiration. The city would provide me with the opportunity to indulge my passion for live music and football. The city has a contrasting range of old and new architecture in, making it the ideal place to take in the architectural inspiration.

Recently I undertook a cultural visit to the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, to view the Rolf Harris exhibition being held there. The exhibition highlighted the amazing scope of Rolf’s creativity ranging from his expressional portraits, vivid landscapes and cartoons he is so famous for creating. His spectrum of media experimentation varies hugely alternating from canvases, paper and a grand piano he painted in the style of his homeland of Australia. The Walker Art Gallery itself is a beautiful piece of architecture with its stone walls with beautifully crafted columns framing it.  The interior is just as amazing with delicately crafted sculptures and carvings. It looks breath taking and is the ideal place to house Liverpool’s most outstanding art collection.

My favourite piece of Architecture is the Royal Albert Hall. The architecture is Italianate 16^th century renaissance and is very beautiful.  In common with the Walker Art Gallery, it is decorated with stunning stone carvings and arches. This is the style of architecture that appeals to me most. I love extravagant and lavish buildings, full of features and beautiful intricate details. Part of its appeal is that such an amazing building was built as a multi purpose venue to hold concerts, public meetings, scientific conventions and award ceremonies.  It also holds sentimental value to me as I have been fortunate enough to witness my first ever live concert there, and live music is a large part in my life.

I would love to visit the Winter Palace in St Petersburg. In my opinion Russia has some of the most beautiful architecture in the world.  The Winter Palace is breath-taking. It was constructed on a monumental scale that was intended to reflect the might and power of Imperial Russia. The result is large, lavish and luxurious interior and exterior which is a stunning part of the Russian architectural landscape.
